June 21, 1927 — December 8, 2024
Rose Ellen Wentworth, 97, of Forsyth, IL, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024.
The visitation will be 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, at Grace Methodist Church in Decatur, IL, and the funeral service will immediately follow. The burial will be at Illini Cemetery.
Rose was born June 21, 1927, in Warrensburg, IL, the daughter of Edgar Benning Disbrow and Axie (Huffmaster) Disbrow. Rose married the love of her life, John Wentworth, on June 5, 1948, and was by his side until his passing on March 4, 2005.
She took great pride in raising her family and being the wife of a farmer. Her love of God’s beautiful creation and serving others inspired her life and her favorite activities. Rose nurtured a flourishing vegetable garden and immaculate flower beds. She showed her love for family, friends, and John’s farming crew in many ways, most memorably through the amazing meals she prepared, often completed with Rose’s famous apple pies or strawberry shortcake. Rose and John enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing cards, and, most of all, spending time with kids, grandkids, cousins, and other members of the Wentworth and Disbrow families. Rose and John were devoted members of Grace United Methodist Church, where they developed many cherished lifelong friendships with other members of the M&M Sunday school class.
Rose is survived by her children: Steve Alan (Pamela) Wentworth of Dahinda, IL, Linda Carol (Jerry) Rodgers of Dahinda, IL, and David John (Lisa) Wentworth of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Dr. Jay (Jodie) Rodgers, Jon (Kelly) Rodgers, Lindsay (Chris) Lam, Julie (Mark) Jacobson, and Scott (Natalie) Wentworth; and great-grandchildren: Drew, Ava, Jack, Lilla, Quinn, Dylan, Cooper, Eli, Tyler, Nicole, Callie Rose, Adelynn, Evan, Paige, and Molly.
Rose is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; parents; brothers: William Disbrow, Lewis Benning Disbrow, and Robert Disbrow, who was mortally wounded in the invasion of Normandy in June 1944, and Charles Disbrow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the Rose Wentworth Memorial Fund at Richland Community College Foundation, which will be used to fund Nursing Programs. Checks should be made payable to Richland CC Foundation, with Rose Wentworth Memorial Fund, in the memo line.
