Roscoe was born in Maroa, Illinois on January 13, 1921, the son of Melvin and Grace Streight. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving overseas as a Staff Sergeant MP during W.W. II. After returning from service in February of 1946 he met Joyce C. Poole. They were soon married on May 10, 1946. They were happily married for sixty-four years. Roscoe retired from AE. Staley after working as a machinist for over forty years. After retirement, he spent many hours volunteering for CHELP. At CHELP he helped the elderly by performing minor carpentry and plumbing tasks that allowed them to stay in their homes. As a youth, Roscoe became an outstanding roller skater and Chaps Roller Rink was a favorite hangout. Roscoe was very proud of the houses he built. He built his father and mother's house near the Macon County fairgrounds and three of his own houses. Roscoe's favorite trips were rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon and sightseeing in Hawaii. He also enjoyed camping and four-wheeling with his family in Southwestern Colorado. Surviving are his wife Joyce C. Streight; son Dennis Streight and wife Janet Streight of Clinton; granddaughter Elizabeth Streight of Nashville, TN; grandson Andrew Streight of Bloomington; sisters Betty L. Gentry of Decatur and Melene Page of Decatur. Roscoe was preceded in death by one brother R. Dale Streight and two sisters Dorothy Schroll and Mary Margaret Bums.
