Ronald Dwight Otta, 76, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 6:35 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital.Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 5 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon Cemetery, Macon, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Funeral Honors. Memorials may be given to PawPrint Ministries Comfort Dogs, 226 W. Eldorado St. Decatur, IL 62522.Ronald was born November 13, 1939, in Moweaqua, IL, the son of Dwight and Charlene (Shaw) Otta. He married Patricia Taylor on September 16, 1967 in Elwin, IL.Ronald served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for Borg-Warner from 1965-1988, and then TCCI until May 2015. He enjoyed daily walks, visiting with friends and family, and especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events. Ron was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was also very proud of his cars and lawn. Over his lifetime he donated many gallons of blood to the Red Cross.Surviving are his wife Patricia of Decatur, IL, daughters: Sherri Vandermyde and husband Lyle of Forsyth, IL and Jeanne Felter and husband Lonnie of Elwin, IL; son: Mark Otta and Tammy Tirpak of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Zach Felter, Taylor Hedges, Bailey Felter, Luke Vandermyde, and Alex Vandermyde; brothers: Leon Otta and wife Cathy of Decatur, IL, Dale Otta and wife Sherrie of Macon, IL, and Dean Otta of Mt. Zion, IL; sister-in-law: Opal Otta of Elwin, IL.Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and brother Keith.The family would like to thank Hickory Point Christian Village staff, Millikin University nursing students, and St. Mary’s Hospital staff for the loving care given to Ron.
