Ronald Lee Dukes, 76, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors by the US Marine Corps and Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail. Memorials in Ron’s honor may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, is assisting the family.
Ron was born June 22, 1948 in Danville, the son of Cleo and Ida Mae (Stevens) Neally. He married Candace Malone on July 9, 1977 in Maroa. Ron proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of Sergeant and serving in Vietnam. After returning from service, he went to work for the Wabash Railroad which eventually became Norfolk and Southern where he retired after 24 years as a brakeman conductor. Ron was a huge sports fan and could always be found watching sports of all kinds. But, he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 5117 in Carthage, IL.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Candace; daughter, Michelle (Carl) Wheeler of Decatur; son, Damon (Christian) Dukes of Florida; grandchildren: Payton Dukes of Palm Bay, FL, Lexi Dukes, Jake Dukes and Brody Dukes, all of Decatur; sister, Linda Newman of Jacksonville; brother, David (Kathy) Neally of Brentwood, TN; and mother and father-in-law, Rolland and Donna Malone of Decatur.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Ed Neally.
