Roger Lawyer

September 5, 1947 — January 18, 2025

Roger E. Lawyer, 77, of Oakley, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church in Cerro Gordo. Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, also at the church. Interment will follow the funeral service at Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lawyer family, in care of Ami Kerr.

Roger was born on September 5, 1947, in Decatur, IL, to the late Harold and Hazel (Soran) Lawyer. He married Mary Louise Sheets on May 10, 1975, in Cerro Gordo, IL. They shared many cherished years together until her passing on February 25, 2018.

A proud Vietnam veteran, Roger served in the United States Army. He went on to work as a lab supervisor at the ADM East Plant Lab in Decatur. Dedicated to his community, Roger was an active member of the American Legion Post 117 and served as an Oakley Township Trustee.

Roger had a passion for life and enjoyed bowling, cheering on the L.A. Dodgers and Illini sports teams, and cruising around in his John Deere Gator.

He is survived by his three children: Ami Renee (Anthony) Kerr of Murfreesboro, TN; Tim (Lynn) Lawyer of Brentwood, TN; and Jeffrey Scott (Jennifer) Lawyer of Oakley, IL. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Luke Lawyer, Avery Kerr, Adalinn Kerr, London Lawyer, and Austinn Kerr. He also leaves behind several cousins and many treasured memories
