Rodney Elmore

October 7, 1942 — November 2, 2024

Rodney Carl Elmore “Rocco” passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2024, with his daughter Carla and her partner Jason at his side.

Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on November 30, 2024, at American Legion Post 105, 1535 Legion Dr, Decatur, IL, 62521. Burial with full military honors by the United States Air Force, and Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.

Rodney was born on October 7, 1942, the son of Carl and Stella (Centola) Elmore. He married Joyce Dunn-Elmore on November 10, 2000. She preceded him in death on May 8, 2021.

After proudly serving his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force, Rodney was the owner of Rocco’s Bar for 31 years. Rocco’s was proudly named after his grandfather, Rocco Centola, who came from Italy to Decatur at the age of 14. He and Rodney were very close. Rodney enjoyed deep sea fishing, splitting his time between his home in Riverview, Florida, and had a great love of collecting Cadillacs and hot rods - especially his 1925 T-Bucket, which he proudly called “Rocco’s Hot Rod”. He was a very skilled carpenter, and a member of the Carpenter’s Union, the Ansar Shrine, and the Masonic Lodge Stephen Decatur #979.

Rodney is survived by his daughter, Carla Jean Elmore-Wester (Jason Knobloch) of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren Kiley Marie Wester of Riverton, Lance Corp. Robert Charles Wester of the U.S. Marine Corps; great-grandchildren Stella Marie, Charles Joseph, Declan Michael; brother Robert Elmore (Shirley); nephews Ryan Elmore (Sonya), Steve Fischer (Julie); and great-nephews Christian Elmore, Jesse Elmore, Luke Elmore, Broc Fischer, and Trey Fischer.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, best friend, Randy, and his loving wife, Joyce.

Rodney was well loved and made an impact on the lives of so many he came across. He met strangers and left them as friends and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
