Rodger Lynn Shafer, 63, of Decatur, died Sunday, June, 12, 2016, in his home. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, June 16, 2016, at South Shores Christian Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 until service time. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Rodger was born May 15, 1953, in Decatur, the son of Delbert and Hazel (Lourash) Shafer. He married Carla C. Henderson in Clinton, Illinois on November 5, 1970. Rodger retired from ADM East Plant maintenance department. He loved to bowl, fish, and was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Rodger was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Baker’s, Confectionery, Tobacco and Grain Millers #103 Union. He is survived by his wife Carla of Decatur; sons, Rodger Shafer, Jr. (Mindy) of Decatur, Michael Shafer (Melissa) of Decatur, and Scott Shafer (Melissa) of Dalton City; grandchildren, Maxwell Shafer, Ethan Shafer, A.J. Shafer, Isabel Shafer, Syndi Shafer, Brecken Shafer, Amylie Shafer, and Gage Shafer; brothers, Ronald Shafer, Jim Shafer, Donnie Shafer, and Delbert Shafer, Jr., all of Decatur; sisters, Shirley Nash, Dorothy Campbell, Sharon Bilbrey, and Marilyn Henson, all of Decatur; several nieces, nephews, and special friends. Rodger was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Violet, Vickie, Rose, and Linda, brother, Buddy, and special friend, Darrel. "
