Robert Joe Taylor, 84, of Decatur, passed away on December 14, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.
According to his wishes cremation rites will be arranged and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, in Shelbyville, IL.
Robert was born on July 31, 1941, the son of Charles Edward and Ione Pearl (Felkel) Taylor. He graduated from Shelbyville High School and later served in the Untied States Army from 1959 to 1961. He worked for over 30 years at Caterpillar in Decatur, until his retirement in 1993.
Robert loved to sing karaoke and was singing up until he got sick. He enjoyed crafting, making things and loved to decorate for Christmas. He also loved to cook and garden. Robert was always there for anyone who ever needed anything and would never ask for anything in return. Family was very important to him and will be greatly missed by them.
Robert is survived by two daughters- Rhonda Dingman of Decatur and Vonnie Hedgpeth from Alabaster, AL; six grandchildren- Bryan (Madison) Taylor, Bradley Taylor, Robert Hedgpeth Jr., Jessica (William) Johnson, Jodi Dingman and Jalee Dingman; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandchild, seven brothers and five sisters.
