Robert L. Shepherd, Jr., 84, of Decatur, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 14, and also 9:00 - 9:30 Saturday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be conducted by Macon Lodge #8 AF & AM at the funeral home at 8:00 PM Friday. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Rock Springs Center, or Alzheimer's/Dementia Research. Robert was born April 2, 1931, in Decatur, the son of Robert L. and Hazel (Hawkins) Shepherd, Sr. He married Imogene Nanna in Decatur on December 23, 1951. Robert was a Captain for the Decatur Fire Department for 28 years and retired in 1989. He previously worked for National Biscuit and Huss and Schlieper. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Macon Lodge #8 AF &AM, Springfield Consistory, and was a volunteer at Rock Springs Center. He was also a master carpenter, enjoyed playing the dulcimer, had a passion for stained glass, enjoyed ballroom dancing, extensive traveling, and he had great attention to detail. Robert was a US Air Force veteran and served in the Korean War. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Imogene of Decatur; children, Diana (Joe) Patterson of Decatur, Steven (Pam) Shepherd, retired Decatur Fire Department of Decatur, Robert "Rob" (Sherry) Shepherd, III, United States Air Force of Decatur, Susan Martin (Rick Rogers) of Haughton, LA, and Alan (Becky) Shepherd of Manchester, MO; sister Juanita (Richard) Dale-Harned of Decatur; brothers; David (Delores) Shepherd, and Jerry (Margaret) Shepherd, both of Decatur; 11 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to thank Dr. Totel and the sixth floor doctors and medical staff at St. Mary's Hospital, especially Monica and April, for their care and compassion. Robert will be remembered for his amazing love for his wife, family and friends, his sense of humor, gentle spirit, and his appreciation for his salvation found in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed. "
