Robert Edward Sanner, 80, of Decatur, IL, passed away Wednesday morning, October 12, 2011, on his 80th birthday. A service to celebrate Bob's life will be at the First United Methodist Church in Moweaqua, Illinois at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 15, 2011. A private family burial will precede the service at 9:30 A.M. at I.O.O.F. cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 P.M., Friday, October 14, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 N. Oakland Avenue, Decatur, IL. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Athletes in Action and First United Methodist Church in Moweaqua. Bob was born on October 12, 1931 in Moweaqua, Illinois, the son of Edward B & Alice (Thomason) Sanner. He loved relaxing at his farm, reading, and engaging friends in thought provoking conversations on many esoteric topics. Bob retired from his company Decatur Electronics in 2008. Prior to that he owned other companies, and worked in several different industries in executive positions in which he traveled internationally, most notably Bandag Inc. in Muscatine, Iowa, where he and his family lived from 1969 through 1988. He was a member of several boards of directors, held various consulting positions, and taught economics. While in Muscatine he was active with the boy scouts and the United Way. Bob graduated from the University of Illinois where he was in the ROTC program and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the U.S. Air Force, and was later a Captain in the Air Force Reserves. Bob was a lifelong Methodist. In his retirement, he enjoyed watching all the U of I, Bears, and Bulls games. He married Wilma Louise Spriggs on July 11, 1953 in Moweaqua, IL, and they celebrated 58 years together. Surviving are his wife Wilma Spriggs Sanner, daughter Lori Sanner of Decatur, son Jim Sanner of Asheville, NC, son Randy Sanner and wife Margo of San Diego, CA, grandsons Craig Sanner and David Sanner both of San Diego, sisters Mary Ann Hedges and Carol Duncan (Aubrey) both of Moweaqua, niece Cindy Minott of Moweaqua, niece Carol Ann Williams (Jody Long) of Memphis, TN, nephews Troy Duncan (Teresa) and Jim Hedges (Loretta) both of Moweaqua, six grand nephews, four grand nieces, and many many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, James Hedges. The Sanner family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Decatur Memorial Hospital Cardiovascular Unit for their devoted care for Bob during his illness. "
