Robert “Bob” Roy Sanders, 100, of Charleston, Illinois, formerly of Decatur, Illinois, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Villas of Hollybrook in Charleston.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2026, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
Mr. Sanders was born September 3, 1925, in Decatur, the son of Roy Franklin and Gladys Marie (Troesch) Sanders. He attended Decatur High School and served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946, spending time in Europe during World War II. He married Cora Brian on September 11, 1948, in Decatur. She preceded him in death January 3, 2005.
Mr. Sanders spent his life in the auto body business at shops throughout the Decatur area and retired from Ming Auto Body in Decatur. He was a member of Mound Chapel Church. He enjoyed dancing in Arthur with friends until age 98, tinkering and fixing things around the house, and sharing morning coffee with friends.
He is survived by three daughters: Mary Jane Smith of Mechanicsville, Virginia; Bonnie Eaton of Decatur; and Carol (Charles) Owens of Charleston, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Joy Sanders of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Mark Jay and Barry Lynn Sanders; and one brother, Wayne Sanders.
