Robert "Bob" Dean Robertson, Sr., 90, of Decatur, Illinois passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 6:20 p.m. at Imboden Creek Living Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL, with military honors by the Macon County Honor Guard. Bob was born on January 13, 1924 in Decatur, Illinois to his parents Owen and Viola (Coay) Robertson. Shortly after high school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served at Los Alamos, New Mexico, and later on Tinian Island, where he worked on assembling and loading the atomic bombs for the B-29 missions that ended World War II. This will forever be remembered in history as the "Manhattan Project". Before he left for the service, he married Dora Lee Huff on October 31, 1942. They had two children: a son, Robert Dean Robertson, Jr., and a daughter, Cheryl Lee Stoneham. Bob worked hard to provide for his family after returning from the war, working two jobs. He worked at Leader Iron Works full-time, and also part-time at Superior Welding. He finished his career at U.S.I. in the chemical plant in Tuscola, Illinois, from which he retired at 56 years of age. He spent his retirement enjoying visiting his children, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, and later obtained his Private Pilot's license. And in recent years, he could regularly be found at the D.A.V. around dinner time! He was a member of the Decatur Moose Lodge, B.P.O. Elks #401 in Decatur, IL, V.F.W. Post #99, and American Legion Post #105. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dora; his brother: William Ray Robertson, his sister-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a grandson, Jason Stoneham. He is survived by his son: Robert Robertson (Kaye), of Blue Mound, IL; his daughter: Cheryl Stoneham, of Mt. Zion, IL; one sister: Dottie Pottorff, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the D.A.V. or Decatur Moose. "
