Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 12, 2008, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 7 P.M., Friday, January 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, IL.Bob was born June 14, 1930, in Decatur, IL, the son of Ozie and Ruby (Wasson) Owens. He married Dixie A. Beard on August 13, 1954 in Decatur, IL. He began his working career in 1949 at A.E. Staley Co. and then in 1950 joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. Bob then returned to work at Staleys again until his retirement, and he was past vice president of the union. He enjoyed golfing at Nelson Park and playing baseball, and he was a member of Staleys Fast-Pitch Softball team. Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dixie of Decatur, IL; children Terry Lynn Owens, of Borger, TX, DixieYvonne Moore and husband Jerry of Decatur, IL, James Robert Owens of Amarillo, TX, Robin Lucille Owens of Decatur, IL; 6 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren; sisters Roberta Nugent of Decatur, IL and Ruby Owens of Arizona.He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Heather.The Owens family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Manor Care for their months of caring for Bob during his illness.
