Robert Mccourt

November 23, 1933 — June 18, 2015

ENC Robert (Bobbo/Mac) McCourt departed to join the Irish saints in heaven on June 18, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, IL with Teresa and loving family at his side. Robert was born to Robert and Vera McCourt on November 23, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA. Bob grew up along the Schuylkill River surrounded by what is now Valley Forge National Park. The countryside was his boyhood playground and instilled in him his love for the water, woods, and nature! Robert proudly served his country for 40 years, serving in both the Navy and Air Force. Robert earned many accolades during his active and non-active duties. He was presented a Presidential Citation for his help in laying sonar cable during the Korean War. As a retired Naval Chief he remained up-to-date on most military and political affairs. Robert retired after 30 years from Tate and Lyle Manufacturing Company in Decatur where he was a supervisor over the power house and very instrumental in the building and bringing on-line the new Coal Generation Plant for the company. He loved his job and looked forward to going to work most days. He enjoyed teaching the young employees the importance of the power house and most of all the safety that had to be practiced continuously. Robert's neighborhood is a little quiet these days. He will be missed by his trusted companion Snoopy and all the neighbors they visited on their daily walks. Robert is survived by Teresa who was his companion for over 30 years; children Kathy McCourt-Cox of Decatur, IL, Kelly McCourt-Edwards of Decatur, IL, Connie (Regina) Woodson of Decatur, IL, and Dianna (Rob) Anderson of Niantic, IL. Sister Annie (Ed) Nuss of Phoenixville, PA. Grandchildren Jamie Schniederjan, Jordan Ashleigh Cox, Amanda Hale, Amber Garcia, Dawnette Sigmon, Brittany Peoples, Alyssa Peoples, Travis McCoy, Samantha McCoy, Justin Anderson, Patrick Brenegan and Mikkenzie Edwards and Macy Anderson. Robert also leaves nine great-grandchildren. A special "Thank You" goes out to the emergency room and ICU nurses at St. Mary's Hospital. Thank you to all Robert's friends in southern IL who have helped maintain his beloved hunting grounds and premises!!! To honor Bob's final wishes, a celebration of life/traditional Irish wake will be held at Doherty's Pub & Pins in Decatur, IL on Saturday, July 11th, 2015 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. A special presentation will be 2:45-3pm. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, son Steve Woodson, several aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family or Wounded Warriors of America. Casual attire is requested. "And until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hand." "
