Robert Logan

Visitation will be 4 to 8 P.M., Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, February 9, at Grace United Methodist Church, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincoln Trails Council B.S.A. or Grace United Methodist Church.Robert Lee Logan was born July 20, 1922 to Raymond Wayne and Rosena Marie (Heinke) Logan. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1941 and it was there that he met the girl he always called the love of his life: Marilynn Hatcher. He continued his education at Millikin University and became a member of TKE fraternity, but his studies were interrupted by the outbreak of WWII. Prior to his shipping out to the South Pacific, Bob and Marilynn were married on July 20, 1943 at Camp Hathaway Chapel in Vancouver, Washington. He was stationed aboard the USAT Sea Barb, where he was the chaplains assistant.When he returned home, Bob saw the need for transportation and housing for the returning servicemen. He started Logan Motors on North Main Street, which he used as a stepping stone for apartment construction throughout Decatur. His dedication to improving housing later won him an award from HASC for preservation and restoration.He returned to Millikin University to complete his degree in business administration in 1966. Millikin awarded him with the Merit Royalty Award, for career achievement. He offered service while at Millikin as a fundraising volunteer, a TKE fraternity alumni board member, and the 1945 Class Agent.His church was a guiding force throughout his life. The 80 years of membership and attendance at Grace United Methodist Church, provided treasured memories of teaching Senior High Sunday School for 9 years, serving on the Board of Trustees, and working as Visitation Programs Chairman. He was a charter member of the M&M Class, where he and his wife made cherished life-long friends.He is remembered as a very hard worker who put in long hours, but he did enjoy travel, dancing, and flying. He obtained his pilots license and flew his 172 Cessna as much as time permitted. He was a member of the AOPA, and was happy to serve as a Airspace Merit-Badge Counselor for the Lincoln Trails Council Boy Scouts of America. His community involvement resulted in positions on the Airport Advisory Board, Mental Health Association Committee, Decatur Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee, Northtown Bank Board of Directors, Magna Bank Board of Directors, and Richland Community College Foundation Board of Directors. Bob was a man of high moral standards and strong work-ethic. Although he experienced many changes in life, his faith in God and his love for his family remained true. We will greatly miss him but know he is now with the Lord.Robert Logan is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Rosena Logan and his sister Eleanor Jean Logan.Robert Logan is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marilynn M. (Hatcher) Logan of Decatur; daughter Marilee (Logan) Moody of Decatur; son David Logan and his wife Mary Anne (Simpson) Logan of Forsyth; sister and brother-in-law Mary Lou BesGrove and Carroll BesGrove of Fairbury; 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 4 nieces, and 1 nephew.The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Station 2 nursing staff at Fair Havens Christian Home and special thanks to buddy Wanda for her tender care.
