Robert Leischner, 53 of Decatur Illinois passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at his home.
Rob was a valued employee at Peters Machine LLC for the last 12 years since returning to Decatur from Lansing Michigan where he lived for 10 years.
A native of Cisco, Robert married the love of his life, Tiffiany White, right after high school and enlisted in the United States Navy February of 1990 and served his country for 10 years. After completing Recruit Training Command and Submarine School, he reported onboard the U.S.S Florida (SSBN 728) as a Submarine Striker in Deck Division. He qualified in Submarine Warfare in April of 1991 and shortly after became a member of the Storekeeper Division. Rob went on to serve at Trident Refit Facility, Bangor WA from August 1994 to 1998. In January of 1998, he reported as the Storekeeper Division’s Leading Petty Officer onboard the U.S.S Michigan (SSBN 727), where he served until his honorable discharge in February of 2000. Robert’s awards and recognitions included numerous Letters of Commendation, Nine Strategic Deterrent Patrol pins, two Navy Battle “E” ribbons, two Good Conduct Medals, the Navy Pistol Marksman Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals. Most of all, Rob was an outstanding Submarine Sailor, a cool-headed mentor to those he led and an amazing friend and shipmate to those he served with.
Rob was preceded in death by his son-in-law Orry LaCroix; father-in-law Gregory White; Grandparents John “Jack” and Jean Fear and James and Virginia Leischner; Uncles Robert Leischner, Dale Leischner and David Fear; Great Uncle and Aunt Ed and Betty Moothart; nephew Kahari Brisbon; cousins Jay and Sherman Leischner. Also preceding are Colleen Leischner (step-mother), James Leischner (uncle).
Left to cherish his precious memory are his loving wife of 35 years Tiffiany (White) Leischner; his daughters: Lindsey (Leischner) LaCroix and Avery Maurer (Clay); mother, Dawn Cook (Roger); sisters: Wendi Turner (Jimmy), Dana Chick (Kelly), Tracey Fox (Michael), and Heather Crockett (Brian); sisters-in-law: Tina Hale, Lisa Wheatley (Mat), Tierany Myers (Bill) and Brandee Jones; brothers-in-law: Chris Myers and Todd Smith; aunts: Irene Leischner and Jackie Disbrow (Ted); nieces: Danielle, Amera, Selina, Ashleigh, Haleigh and Melissa, Samantha, and Kayden; nephews: Keldan, Christopher, Kyle, Caleb, Aaron, Travis, Shaun, Derek, Brandon, Conner, Cameron, Preston, Michael and Fred; great nieces Aubrey, Addison, Matilda, Dixie, Rebel, Madison, Morgan, Kenzie, Maci, Kannon, Wynter, Cora and Brooklyn; great nephews Carter, Ronan and Jameson, Jacoby; great great niece Remi and great great nephew Carter; and best shipmate Chuck Medley
Also surviving are Sue Meyer (mother-in-law), Larry Leischner Sr (father), Larry Jr, Shannon, Chantay, Michael Leischner, Linda Leischner, Dee Leischner.
Rob was known for his no BS attitude but for those that were really close to Rob, he let you see his tender and funny side. He was a thinker, hard worker, jokester, tender and loving man.

Visitation: Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Funeral: Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM with military rites by the US Navy and Macon County Honor Guard.
