Robert J. Keller, 83, of Warrensburg, passed away on August 15, 2025. Friends of Bob know he is storyteller, so as a tribute to him...here goes:
Bob was born to John (“Jack”) and Elizabeth (“Betty”) Keller, and loved his two sisters, Mary Jo (Richard) Micheal and Judy Cunningham, and brother, Bill (Kathy) Keller. Following his dad’s career, Bob and siblings lived in many towns across the Midwest, from Tennessee to Illinois, and Iowa to Indiana. Bob often shared stories about growing up in the post-war era with booming construction, riding his bicycle throughout Indianapolis and driving ever-changing cars.
Bob was a devoted husband to Karen Hood, whom he married on November 21, 1964. They recently celebrated their 60th diamond anniversary. Bob often said he was a blessed man, especially when his big extended family came together from across the country for one celebration or another. He would be surrounded by his children, Tracy (Jeff) Hanes, Christine (Tony) Young, Robin (Bryan) Perry, Paula (Aaron) Holtman and Michael (CasieAnn) Keller, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Bob treasured the time with his immediate and extended family, along with all his many friends. The saying goes, “Friends can be for a lifetime, a season or a reason.” Bob treasured his all his friendships, including those with his and Karen’s childhood buddies; Kinney Shoes and Wagner Castings colleagues; fellow Central Christian Church members; flying club pals; people connected to his kid’s activities; and the list goes on. Bob easily struck up a conversation with anyone, anywhere and anytime; he always looked forward to learning something new from whoever he met, even if he didn’t catch their names.
Bob had many interests and hobbies. As a young couple, Bob and Karen were ballroom dancing enthusiasts and lit up the floor on special occasions. Together they also spent Saturday nights playing cards with friends. In his retirement, Bob built a home, then went on to build his handyman business. He also tinkered in his workshop crafting a myriad of wooden toys, puzzles, school mascots, replica cars, and various horse-drawn wagons. Bob’s kids, sons-in-law, grandchildren and even great-grandson spent time with him in his workshop. Finally, Bob had a passion for reading about historical events, buying mountains of books from everywhere.
Bob’s family and friends are losing a thoughtful husband, caring family man and generous friend. He will be dearly missed. In his spirit, reflect upon these words...
“My life’s been full, I’ve savored much, good friends, good times, a loved-one’s touch.”
