Visitation: 9:00 AM on August 25, 2011 Funeral: 10:00 AM on August 25, 2011 Robert Wayne "Bob" Fulk, 77, of Mt. Zion, IL, died at 7:17 P.M., Wednesday, August 17, 2011, in his apartment at Keystone Meadows, with his daughter near him. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 25, with Retired Pastor Frank Marshall officiating, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 North Oakland Avenue, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The family requests casual dress. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes, an organization dear to Bob's heart, (with triplet grandchildren born 12 weeks prematurely, in 1994). Bob was born November 18, 1933, to Cecil and Bernice (Litchenberger) Fulk in their home in rural Oakley. He was a 1952 graduate of Argenta High School. Bob served in the United States Army from 1955 - 1957. After training at Fort Leonard Wood Army Base (MO), Bob was first stationed at Brize Norton, England, as a motor pool mechanic and later, in Germany, with the post office. He was a machine operator for 40 years with the Mueller Company, retiring in 1993. Gifted at mechanical repairs, Bob enjoyed riding his beloved Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. During the 1960's and 70's, traveling and camping with his family to state and national parks were favorite activities. In later years, Bob's memorable vacations included driving to Sturgis, SD, several times for the Annual Motorcycle Rally. (He would've preferred to ride his cycle, but decided driving the truck was more practical at his age!) Bob and his family moved from Macon to Mt. Zion, in 1968. He lived in the same home for 43 years, keeping a well-groomed yard (neighbors say he set a high standard for them!), and after his wife's passing, an immaculate house. His vehicles were always spotless (until it rained); then it was time to wash them again! Bob was an avid fan of John Deere equipment and the Ford Motor Company. Except for his motorcycles, Fords were the only vehicles Bob purchased. He was proud that Ford did not receive a bailout from the government! He married Peggy Joan Gorsiek on July 2, 1954. She preceded him in death on December 21, 1996. Surviving are his children, son, Robert Fulk of Ore City, TX; daughter, Carole Schwager of Naperville, IL; son-in-law, Steve Schwager; and grandchildren, Valeri Schwager, Greg Schwager, and Zach Schwager, whom he would've loved to see graduate high school in May 2012; and "granddog" Tawnie. Bob is also survived by brother-in-law Virgil (Mary Jo) Miller of San Pablo de Heredia, Costa Rica, Central America; sisters Dorothy McConkey of Mt. Zion, IL; Joan (Jim) Ludwick of Decatur, IL; Joyce/AKA Judy (Larry) Varvil of Elbert, CO. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and older siblings, brother, Tommy, and sister, Betty. The family would like to extend special thanks to DMH Hospice nurses, Gail and Debby, and private caregiver, Judy, who all have hearts of gold; Bob's family practitioners, Drs. Alan, Tom, Alison, and Scott Bilyeu; the nurses and physicians at the Cancer Care Center of Decatur, with special note to Leigh Ann, Patient Services Coordinator; Keystone Meadows, especially the dining director and staff; along with all the relatives and friends who gave their support, as his health declined. Bob expressed a special "thank you" for the DMH Outpatient Nurse who loves DQ blizzards! He asked that heartfelt gratitude be mentioned to dear friends Londa; Norma Jean; Shirley; Diane and Tim; Todd, Paula, and their children Josh and Jenna; Diane and Tim; Gil; Gladys and Dick; Marjorie and Arnold; Marilyn and Ray; and Reno. A special thank you to all his friends at the Mt. Zion Senior Lunch; Bob so enjoyed your companionship! Many thanks to Frank, Jeanne, Alice, and Don for serving the seniors' lunch at the MTZ Majestic Hall, and for your valued friendship. When siblings can't be there for you, it's nice to know your neighbors and friends willingly step in, and become your family. Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com.
