Robert Fallstrom

Robert Lee "Bob" Fallstrom, 88, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 3:54 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at Riverside Baptist Church, with visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, July 13, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Decatur, with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to: Juvae Jazz Society. Bob was born December 5, 1926, in Dixon, IL, the son of Carl and Ethel Davis Fallstrom. He married Winifred June Smith on October 8, 1949, in Decatur, and celebrated 51 years of marriage together. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2000. Bob was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army, stationed at Army Headquarters in the Pentagon. Bob joined the Decatur Herald and Review as a sports writer in 1949, covering all types of sporting events in central Illinois. He later became Lifestyle Editor, where he thoroughly enjoyed writing many human interest stories relating to central Illinois. Bob and his family enjoyed extensive travels. He had visited all 50 states, and all 7 continents of the earth. Herald and Review readers looked forward to his stories of his latest travels. His many memberships included: the Golden K Kiwanis Club, the R.O.M.E.O. club, the Altrusa Club (he was the only male member), a co-founder of the Juvae Jazz Society. He was active in the G.M. Square Neighborhood Association, was past president of the Macon County Historical Society, had volunteered in Juvenile Diabetes "Kiss-A-Pig" fund-raisers, and more recently, fund-raising efforts for the Macon County World War II Memorial at the Decatur Civic Center. Surviving are his children: Kristin Hargrove of Decatur, IL, Douglas Fallstrom of Oregon, R.B (Betsy) Fallstrom of Glendale, MO, Rolf Fallstrom of Lexington, KY, Jerrold (Julie) Fallstrom of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL, and Erik Fallstrom (Russell Discher), of Berkeley, CA.; 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. "
