Robert J. “Bob” Barr, 94, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, September 15, 2023 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2155 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials in Bob’s honor may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
Bob was born March 28, 1929 in Decatur, the son of Karl Wilhelm and Augusta Emily (Zeronski) Barr. He married Jewel Langley on October 28, 1948 in Mt. Zion. Bob served our country in the US Army National Guard where he earned the rank of Seargent First Class. He worked at Caterpillar for 37 years retiring as Planning and Tooling Manager. Bob was an author, writing 2 books; The Barr Book and Death and Dying. He enjoyed playing golf and played many of the Decatur courses and a highlight was a Hole in One at Wildwood Golf Course. He was also an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Along with his son, James, he visited every National League baseball park east of the Mississippi. Bob was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
Surviving is his wife of 75 years, Jewel Barr; children: John (Julie) Barr of Carlsbad, CA, David (Gale) Barr of Decatur, Kaye Barr of Brookings, OR, and James (Linda) Barr of The Villages, FL; 9 grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Otto, Carl, Ernie, Emil, Henry, Edwin, Bill, Richard, Walter and Elmer; and sisters: Helen Jinks and Emma Mueller.
