Richard Stokes

Richard Stokes, 55, of Decatur, IL passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 10:00am at the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur. A private burial will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials may be given to the University of Illinois Library.Richard was born on October 8, 1962 in Decatur, IL, the son of Robert Alan and Karen Wilene (Grotfeldt) Stokes. He married Carol Ann Overlin on April 7, 1988 in Sioux Falls, SD and she survives. Richard was the Patron Services Manager at the University of Illinois Library and previously worked for the Decatur Public Library. He was a history buff and computer wizard. Richard is survived by his wife Carol and his parents Robert (Jeanne) Stokes of Decatur, IL, and Karen (Alex) Hernandez of Devine, TX; three brothers, Eric (Lisa) Eskew, of Moweaqua, IL, Neil Eskew of Seattle, WA, and Logie Talley of Tomball, TX; two sisters, Terri Eskew of College Station, TX, and Victoria (Clint) Farrier of Decatur, IL. He was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews and had a special bond with Sophia Eskew, Houston Thomas, Nicholas Stokes, Natasha Gower, Matt Stokes, Jessica Grotfeldt, and Andy Grotfeldt.Richard was preceded in death by one sister, Dawnell Eskew, and his beloved aunt, Louise (Harold) Dillman, and his uncle Virgil Grotfeldt.
