Memorial services will be 11:30 A.M., Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation one hour prior to service time. Burial will be following the service at 1:00 P.M., at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL, with military rites conducted by Macon County Honor Guard and U.S. Army Honor Guard.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.Richard was born on December 28, 1928, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of William L. Ryan and Esther (Evey) Ryan. He married Janice L. Cooper on February 18, 1950. He retired from Caterpillar in 1986 after 31 years of service and was a member of Caterpillar Retirees. In retirement, he and his wife traveled the country in their 5th wheel home. He enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. Always helpful, he never met a stranger. Richard was a Democratic Precinct Committeeman in the 1960' and 70's. He also served on the Warrensburg Village Board and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Richard was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #99 and member of U.A.W. Local #751.Surviving are his wife, Janice; daughters Susan Quarles (Bud) of Champaign; Carol Dirks (John) of Moweaqua; and son Rick of Decatur and four grandsons, Devin (Andrea) and Drew Quarles; Justin and Kyle Dirks and one great-grandson Isaak Quarles. He is also survived by his sister Delora Burris (Kenneth) of Lake Village, Indiana.He was preceded in death by his parents.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com. "
