Richard Reising

Richard P. (RP) Reising died on July 8, 2018. R.P. was the eldest son of Richard K and Virginia Powers and grandson of Jack and Jill Powers. R.P. attended Stephen Decatur High School and graduated from Deerfield Academy, Deerfield, Massachusetts. He graduated with an A.B. degree from Stanford University and got his law degree from the University of Missouri. He began his career as an investment banker with Tabor Securities and after several years entered private practice of law with several local law firms. In 1975 he joined the legal department of Archer Daniels Midland where he spent the next 30 years, serving as Attorney, Assistant Secretary, Secretary and General Counsel, and Senior Vice President, International. R.P. was also a director of Hickory Point Bank and Trust. Earlier in his career R.P. was active in many civic and charitable organizations, serving as director of the American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts of America, Macon Resources, Macon County Conservation District and Foundation, the YMCA and Decatur Memorial Hospital. After he retired in 2003 he was a director of the CNFA, A Washington-based NGO servicing worldwide rural agricultural sources. He was also a member of the Illinois and Decatur Bar Association. R.P. is survived by his wife of 50 years, Liz; four children, Richard P. Jr. (Paige), Jeffrey S. (Lori), Todd A., Sara and four grandchildren: Jordan, Payton, Henry and Vivian. Three brothers also survive: John H; Lance M. (Juliet); and Stephen L. (Robyn) There will be no visitation and pursuant to his wishes the body will be cremated. Private burial services will be held with his body placed alongside his parents on the Powers Hill in Greenwood Cemetery. R.P. endured a lifelong love-hate relationship with golf which he quit at least twice a season. No more mulligans . . . The family would like to thank Dr. Wade and the staff at Cancer Care Specialists for their care and kindness. Memorial donations should be directed to the Macon County Animal Shelter. A memorial reception, celebrating R.P.’s life will be held at a future date. "
