Richard A. Rathert, 84, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Monday, November 25, 2024 at Northwest Christian Church, Decatur. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Windsor Cemetery in Windsor, IL Memorials in Richard’s honor may be made to: Northwest Christian Church to be used to improve and maintain the property, a cause that Richard was very passionate about.
Richard was born May 2, 1940 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Walter and Catherine (Matvey) Rathert. He married Harlene Bence on December 10, 1978 in Windsor, IL. Richard taught mathematics at Fort Zumwalt Schools in Missouri and later at Pana. He was an assistant coach at both schools. Richard then worked for over 40 years as a financial advisor at John Hancock and Investment Planners in Decatur. He enjoyed reading, especially historical accounts, and was a runner, running many 5K’s. Richard was an avid fan of the Fighting Illini and St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of Northwest Christian Church in Decatur where he taught Sunday School and spent countless hours volunteering to mow and keep the property looking immaculate.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Harlene; son, Charles Rathert of Greenville, SC; daughter, Allison Rathert of Greenville, SC; sister, Barbara Glass of Cape Girardeau, MO; and niece, Shannon Glass.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
