Richard L. “Dick” Nicholls, 82, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025 at Fair Havens Senior Living.
Visitation will be 12:00 – 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 13, at the funeral home. Private family burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Long Creek. Memorials in Richard’s honor may be made to Morningside Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.
Richard was born June 25, 1943 in Decatur, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Mott) Nicholls. He married Anna Jean Bryant on February 25, 1967. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2019. Richard proudly served our country in the US Army. He owned and operated Nicholls Painting for over 50 years. Richard was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Fighting Illini and enjoyed going to games and watching them on TV. He loved gardening and landscaping. Richard was a member of Morningside Church of Christ.
Surviving are his children: Lise (Ezra) Helmuth of Arthur, IL, Rodney (Grace) Nicholls of Teaneck, NJ, Kelly Benton of North Port, FL, and Krista (Craig) Clark of Springfield, IL; grandchildren: Josh (Johanna) Helmuth, Kieli Nicholls, Caitlyn Nicholls, Shelby Smull, Sean Smull, Rikki Smull, Noah Benton and Brandon Clark; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna Jean; brother, Tom Nicholls; and sister, Debbie West.
