Richard C. Myers, retired farmer of rural Blue Mound, IL, died November 4, 2014. Visitation will be at the Brintlinger Funeral Home in Decatur on Saturday, November 8th, from noon to 2 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at Blue Mound United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 9th, at 2 pm, with Pastor Randy Myers officiating. Private family burial will be at Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, IL. Richard was born October 22, 1927, to Raymond and Marguerite Camp Myers at LaPlace, IL. After growing up on a farm, Richard went to Illinois State University to study agriculture, but returned home to help his father after a farm accident. During this time, his love of music was expressed by playing trumpet for the Decatur Municipal Band. In 1950 he was drafted and served two years in the Korean Conflict, being sent to Japan where he worked as a mechanic, including work on the military cars used by commanding General Matthew Ridgway. He married Joan Hiser on March 29, 1953. Richard was a long-time member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He took delight in treating family and friends to homemade ice cream. He enjoyed working in his farm shop during the off-season, along the way creating a few small farm equipment inventions, some of which were manufactured in volume for use by other farmers. Later in life Richard took up the hobby of restoring antique cars. He and Joan enjoyed many Model-T car trips and meetings as members of the Central Illinois Vintage Car Club, the Prairie State Model-T Ford Club, and the Model-T Ford Club of America. He was also a member of American Legion Post 105. Surviving are: his loving wife of 61 years, Joan; daughters Linda (Rick) Gilmore of West Dundee, IL and DiAnne Myers of St. Louis, MO; son Robert (Amy) Myers of Columbia, MO; grandchildren Justin, Paul and Scott Mallers and Chelsea and Haley Myers; sisters Mary Merrill and Charlotte (Dale) Mattingly; sisters-in-law Pat Myers and Eileen Taylor; and brother-in-law Don Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter. Thanks to Dr. Joan Covault and all his caregivers during his final months of life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Blue Mound United Methodist Church or a charity of choice. "
