Richard Dale Holmes, 93, of Decatur, IL, died 11:50 P.M., Sunday, April 29, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 7 P.M., Wednesday, May 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Richard was born June 18, 1918, in Farmer City, IL, the son of Clarence Arthur and Loma Bell (Hoover) Holmes. He married Goldie Henderson on December 24, 1940 in St. Charles, MO. She preceded him in death in February 2006. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII on the aircraft carrier USS Bunker Hill in the Pacific theater. Following the war he returned to Decatur and began work at General Electric Co. in 1947 as a tool and die maker, retiring after many years of service. Richard was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Decatur and many other Illinois lakes, and also took part in many Bass tournaments as a member of the BassMasters fishing club. And, he was a die-hard Cubs fan. He is survived by one son: David Allen Holmes and wife Barbara, of Decatur; 3 grandchildren: Brad (Sue) Holmes, Boyd Holmes, of Decatur, and Brent (Latonia) Holmes, of San Antonio, TX; 4 great grand- children: Zachary, Hayden, Natalee, and Isabelle; niece: Kaye Henry; great-niece: Lindsey (Micah) Sheppard, and several dear nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Drs. Fritz, Arnold, Kairouz, and Rogers, and the nurses and staff at St. Mary's Hospital: the Emergency Department, I.C.U., and 4th floor, for their loving kindness and care for Richard during his hospitalization. "
