Richard E. Doddek, 87, of rural Decatur, Oakley Township, died at 6:57 AM Thursday, February 27, 2014, in his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Decatur. Richard was born on January 6, 1927, in Oakley, IL, a son of Adolph and Wilhelmina Kaminski Doddek. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, and served in the Army of Occupation in Japan following the end of the war. He was retired from the Maintenance Dept of the P.P.G. Industries plant in Mt. Zion, IL. During his retirement, he loved fishing and gardening, especially sharing his garden produce with his friends. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Decatur. Richard married Elta Burneita Gentry in Decatur, IL, on September 19, 1948. She survives. He is also survived by 3 children: Bonnie Pflaum, of Lakeland, FL, Joyce Hartley, of Decatur, IL, and David Doddek, of Germantown Hills, IL; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 4 sisters, and 1 step-son.
