January 17, 1955 — March 12, 2015

Richard Owen Cox passed away unexpectedly March 12, 2015 in Clinton, Iowa and went to the loving arms of his Lord. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. The family requests casual attire, and in honor of Dick, requests his Union Brothers wear their union attire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family, c/o Staley Credit Union, Decatur, IL. Dick was born January 17, 1955 in Cheyenne, WY, the son of Richard D. and Edna M. (Martinez) Cox. He married Janet White on May 8th, 2005. They shared 15 wonderful and happy years together and were the love of each other's life. Dick was a member of First Christian Church in Blue Mound, IL. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a very proud member of Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local 65. Dick enjoyed all family gatherings, camping, flying his plane in earlier years, obtaining his pilots license in 1982. He was handy at many things and took pride in doing it right. He was big hearted and generous with his time if someone needed him. Dick loved giving nutritional advice to anyone who would listen. Surviving are his wife Janet of Blue Mound, IL; mother: Edna Cox of Decatur, IL; daughter: Marsha (Jeremy Rucker) Cox of Decatur, IL; stepsons: Evan (Ashley) Claypool of Lerna, IL, and Brett (Katy) Claypool of Sullivan, IL; grandchildren: Corinna, Audrey, Ty, and Kaydence; sister: Brenda (Steve) Kraus of Decatur, IL; brothers: Bob Cox, Loren Cox, both of Decatur, IL and Gary (Barb) Cox of Oreana, IL; in-laws: Charles White, Phillip and Linda Russell, Russ and Susan Anderson and their families. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his father Richard Cox and mother-in-law Phyllis White. "
