Ray Allen Johnson, age 52, entered into rest March 20, 2015 at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. He was a native of Decatur, Illinois and had lived in Tallahassee since 1997. Ray was a graduate of Millikin University where he received his BA and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega-Theta Iota Chapter. He received his MBA from the University of Illinois and in 1996 he completed his CPA. Ray was employed as Treasurer at Capital City Bank since 1997 where he was recently awarded the 2014 Godfrey Smith Award. He also served as Treasurer of the Capital City Bank Foundation. Ray was an adjunct professor at Flager College at Tallahassee Community College. His community involvement included volunteering as a coach for various Tallahassee Sport and Recreation teams and serving on the boards of the North Florida Volleyball Academy, Tallahassee Junior Volleyball and Leon High School Volleyball. Ray is a former board member of the Leon High School Foundation and Communities in Schools of Leon County and was a graduate of Leadership Tallahassee Class 23, where he was awarded the Julian V. Smith Award for Community Service in 2008. He served on the United Way's Community Investment Committee and as the Bank chair for the American Heart Association and the March of Dimes Walk America fundraising campaigns. Ray had coached many years for Tallahassee Parks and Recreation, Trinity Catholic School and the Tallahassee Police Athletic League. Ray served as President of many sport organizations including Messer Fast Pitch Softball League, Leon Volleyball Boosters and Leon Girls Basketball Boosters. Before moving to Tallahassee while living in Decatur, Illinois he was a mentor at Big Brother Big Sisters and coached at St. Patrick's and St. James Catholic Church. Ray was a devoted family man, a skilled banker, a kindhearted and inspiring leader and a generous supporter of his community. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Johnson, his grandparents, three uncles and one aunt. Ray is survived by his wife, Jeanie Pierson Johnson of Tallahassee; daughters, Holly Gibson of West Palm Beach, Katie Johnson of Tallahassee, Alexandria Johnson of Miami, Taylor Johnson of Tallahassee; father, Raymond Johnson of Decatur, IL; sister, Brenda Bowe of Decatur, IL; brother, David Johnson and his wife Laurie of Decatur, IL; niece, Amber Johnson of Decatur, IL; nephews, Steve Bivens of Decatur, IL, Daniel Bivens of Kuki, Japan, Adam Bivens and Zachary Johnson of Decatur, IL. The family will receive friends, Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Funeral liturgy services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Friends Creek Cemetery in Argenta, IL.
