Rachel Hunniford

Rachel W. Hunniford, 105 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, December 3, 2015, at the Hickory Point Christian Village where she had been living since July.Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 7, at Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements.Rachel was born January 15, 1910 in Farmersville, IL, one of eight children of Herman George and Bertha Mae Young. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1928 and moved to Chicago where she met Roy Hunniford. They married in 1931 and moved to Decatur, IL in 1947. Rachel retired from St. Mary’s Hospital. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener. Rachel was still driving her beloved Oldsmobile at age 103. She always contributed her longevity to having been raised on a farm.Rachel is survived by her children: Beverly Nuff (David) of Rochester, WA, and Dennis (Nancy) of Chapin, SC; sister: Virginia Stine of Wingate, MD; sister-in-law: Bette Ann Young of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren: Diana Rocheford (Russ) of Bellevue, NE, Christine Stimson of Virginia Beach, VA, Andrea Soltero (Luis) of Alameda, CA, Scott Hunniford (Kim) of Charlotte, NC, and Christy Hunniford of Nashville, TN; eleven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her parents and several siblings.Memorials may be made the Moundford Free Methodist Church.The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the personnel at Hickory Point Christian Village where she received loving care.
