R. “Buster” Powell II, 77, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 6:56 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family.Buster was born September 11, 1938, in Decatur, IL, the son of Robert L. Powell I and Julia Fern (Haws) Powell.Buster worked for A.E. Staley Company, Basley’s Meat Market, Howard’s Market, and Dillard’s Market. In 1960 he became a route man for Sunshine Dairy, and later owned the Decatur Milk & Ice Company. Buster had owned 3 different Gulf Gas station/convenience stores. He was part owner of Gabby’s restaurant, and most recently was owner/operator of Aaction Equipment.Buster was a member and Past President of the Decatur Shrine Club, and also the Shriners’ Tin Lizzie Club. He enjoyed collecting antique milk bottles, die-cast cars and other items.Buster married Amy Joanne Hudson in 1958. She preceded him in death in 2005. Together they had three sons: Terry Powell (wife: Gina) of Aurora, CO, Tom Powell (wife Sara) and grandson Jacob, and granddaughter Brenda of Decatur, IL, and great-grandson Aydn and Bobby Powell (grand-daughter: Amy) of Decatur, IL.In 2007 he married Sharon Rambo. With this marriage, he acquired 3 step-sons: Darrin Rambo and wife Tricia of Salem, IL, Tom Rambo and wife Cherie of Decatur, IL, and Leonard Rambo and wife Emelie of O’Fallon, IL; grandchildren: Nikki, Caitlyn, Baylee, Emma, Max, Charlie, Justin, Haley, Rachel, and Jason; great-grandsons: Jonah and Owen. He is also survived by his sisters: Shug Adams and Pat Beaman; brother: Walter “Lucky” Arndt: many wonderful aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his special puppy: Daisy.Buster was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joanne, and sister “Cute Eyes” Dearman.Buster never forgot a face or locations in and around Decatur. He was quite a talker and made you feel like he knew you all of your life. At age 70, Buster became a Roman Catholic and dearly loved his church.Buster’s family, especially Sharon, would like to thank two of the best doctors in the world, Dr. Totel and Dr. Dawood, and also the staff of Fresenius Dialysis Center. Thank you also to Deacon Kevin and Father Rick at St. Thomas Catholic Church. "
