Phyllis J. Haab Ranney, of Decatur, IL, died 2:28 PM, Sunday, December 12, 2010 at her home.Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 18, 2010, at First Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL with visitation 3:30 - 6:30 P.M., Friday, December 17, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL.Memorials: First Lutheran Church or Cancer Care Specialist of Central Illinois.Phyllis was born in Fairbury, Illinois on April 16, 1926 the daughter of Samuel Francis and Sarah Louise Steidinger Haab. She married Burton E. Ranney May 3, 1947 in Decatur, IL. He passed away October 19, 1992.Phyllis was a member of First Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, past President of Women of the ELCA, also serving on various church committees involving music, choir, fellowship and the church quilters. She was a member of P.E.O Chapter BC. Phyllis graduated from Millikin University, was a member of Millikin Chapter of S.A.I., and the Alumni Board at Millikin University receiving the Millikin Loyalty Award. Phyllis was a teacher for 29 years, teaching in Blue Mound for seven years and twenty-two years for Decatur School District #61, retiring in 1989. She received the Teacher of Excellence Award. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the company of her dear friends. Phyllis also loved to travel and quilt.Surviving are her sons Gregory A. Ranney of Ridgefield, CT; Clark B. (Christy) Ranney of Bloomington, IL; Todd C. Ranney of Decatur, IL; brother Larry (Ann) Haab of Decatur, IL; grandchildren Ashleigh, Emily, Jordan (Rachael), and Taylor; great-granddaughter Lyla; brother-in-law Rodney (Dottie) Ranney, and sister-in-law Corinne Bruno.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burton E. Ranney and son Curtis P. Ranney.Phyllis and family would like to give a very special thank you to Dr. James Wade, nurses, staff, and volunteers at Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois for all their loving care and compassion shown during her illness.The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at DMH Outpatient Care Center; the American Red Cross, and DMH Hospice.Finally, thank you to her dear and faithful friends who offered their support during this journey.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com "
