Paul J. Garver, 96, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Cerro Gordo, IL, passed from this life at 3 PM on January 10, 2013, at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur, II. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren, Cerro Gordo, IL. Burial will be in the Cerro Gordo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, January 14 at the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Cerro Gordo,lL. Memorials may be made to the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren, Cerro Gordo, IL. Paul was born August 29, 1916 near Cerro Gordo, a son of George H. Garver and Lola A. (Wine) Garver. He married Maxine Hickman on December 25, 1939 at the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II. Paul was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren and served the church in a variety of ways. He enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels, raising African Violets, and woodworking. Paul was a Cerro Gordo businessman and State of Illinois employee. He most enjoyed a 28 year association with the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes and the Cerro Gordo Ambulance Service. He was the 2nd certified EMT in Piatt County. Paul is survived by his wife of 73 years, Maxine of Decatur, IL.; sons Duane and wife Jean of Oakley, IL. and Gary of Pekin, IL. He leaves grandchildren Jeff Garver and wife Gwen of Peru, IL.; Brian Garver of Pekin, IL.; Lisa Boyd and fiance' Ron Younker of Heyworth, IL.; Nikki Ingram and husband Chris of Pekin, IL. He also leaves great grandchildren: Colton Boyd, Jacob and Matthew Garver, Lexi Juergens, and Hayes Ingram. Paul is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Clyde and Loren. Paul's family would like to give special thanks to Susan Lange of Sue's Styling Salon in Cerro Gordo, IL.; Ellen Zindel of the Prairie Cardiovascular Group with St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, IL.; the entire staff at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur, IL.; and Safe Haven Hospice from Lincoln, IL. Arrangements are in the very capable hands of the staff at the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, IL. "
