Patricia "Patti" J. Sederwall, 71, of Decatur, IL, departed this life at 6:20 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, June 23, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with Father Richard Weltin, Celebrant. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be at Boiling Springs Cemetery, Decatur. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Patricia was born March 17, 1944, (coincidentally, St. Patrick's Day) in Decatur, IL, a daughter of James and Harriett (Bodell) Layton. She married Kent Sederwall on January 31, 1964, in Decatur. Patti was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She grew up attending St. James Catholic Church in Decatur and graduated from St. Mary's Academy (girls boarding school) in Nauvoo, IL. Patti always enjoyed attending the many school reunions. Patti was a receptionist for St. Mary's Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1990. She had also worked at Carpet Weavers, and more recently at Food For Less, and A.L. Williams Co. Patti loved her faith in God, her church, and loved spending time with her family. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was very proud of her cow creamer collection. She enjoyed watching "the old TV show reruns, including her favorites: Perry Mason, Bonanza and The Golden Girls. Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Kent of Decatur, IL; son: Aaron Sederwall and wife Deborah of Champaign, IL, daughter: Gina Dobson and husband Stan of Norfolk, VA; brothers and sisters: Dennis Layton of Decatur, IL, Theresa Kahler and husband Alan of Marion, IL, Christine Layton, Mark Layton, Tony Layton and wife Sue, all of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Derek Sederwall, Lane Dobson, Marisa Dobson; and faithful dog "Sugar", who was always at her side. Patti was preceded in death by her brothers Phil and Joe Layton, and sister Sarah Riley. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Heartland Healthcare, Davita Dialysis, especially Carey, and Decatur Memorial Hospital for their many months of care during Patti's illness.
