DECATUR Otis L. "Red" Butler, 87, of Decatur, died at 4:30 AM Friday, November 25, 2011 in Decatur. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 28, 2011 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials: Oak Grove Church of the Nazarene. Otis was born January 4, 1924 in Gays, IL, the son of William Ward and Julia Lucinda (Carter) Butler. He married Norma Jean Huber on October 1, 1944 in Shelbyville, IL. Otis served in the US Navy during WW II in the South Pacific. He was later employed as a chief tool engineer by Borg-Warner. Otis was a member of Oak Grove Nazarene Church. He was also a former member of the American Legion. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Norma Jean: daughter, Janet Feller and husband, Larry of Decatur; brothers, Ray Butler of Mattoon, Virgil Butler of Shelbyville; sister, Betty Plummer and Floyd Niemeyer of Mattoon; grandchildren, Pamela Mendenhall and husband, Doug of Blue Mound, Bryan Feller and wife, Tonya of Decatur, Brandon Feller and wife, Jessica of Delaware, Ohio, Alicia Shapiro and husband, Jeff of San Diego, CA, Amanda Rhoades and husband, Shane of Branson, MO, Bethany Edgecombe and husband Ryan of Lincoln, IL; great grandchildren, Mikayla Mendenhall, Julianna Mendenhall, Austin Mendenhall, Savannah Mendenhall, Ethan Mendenhall all of Blue Mound, Ashton Feller of Decatur, Benjamin Feller of Delaware, Ohio, Elijah Feller of Delaware, Ohio, Katelyn Rhoades of Branson, MO; step-great grandchild, Lauren Nicholls of Decatur, IL; and sister-in-law, Martha Butler of Shelbyville. Preceding in death are his parents, one son, Lyle Butler; great-grandchild, Benjamin Edgecombe; two brothers, Robert Butler and Emery Ralph "Pete" Butler, and one sister Lula Marie.
