Norman Greenberg

November 21, 1934 — April 18, 2025

Norman Greenberg, 90, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025 at home.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will follow from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Thursday at the funeral home. The Private Family Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur.

Norman was born November 21, 1934 in Decatur, the son of Lewis and Sara (Ichkowski) Greenberg.  He married Harriet Kornbleit on August 31, 1958 in St. Louis Missouri.  Norman graduated from St Louis College of Pharmacy in 1957.

Norman and Harriet owned and operated Rambo Pharmacy in Decatur for 48 years until their retirement in 2008. Norman was truly a pioneer in early community pharmacy. He purchased Rambo Pharmacy in 1960 from the Rambo family and transformed the business into a retail and long-term care pharmacy. With the commitment of dedicated employees, loyal customers and innovative dispensing systems, he and Harriet created one of the premier community-based pharmacies in Illinois. Norman was also committed to improving his community and his profession. He served two terms on the Macon County Board of Supervisors. He became Chairman of the steering committee to form the Macon County Conservation District in 1966. He also led efforts to make the Oglesby Mansion part of the Conservation District.  He was a past president of the Macon County Conservation District Foundation. Norman hosted a health information program on WSOY radio for many years. He also helped with the founding of CHIC Clinic in Decatur, by helping providing pharmacy services to the clinic. He helped establish Planned Parenthood of Decatur and was on the Board of Directors for the Decatur YMCA.

Norman was recognized professionally with the Bowl of Hygeia, a national award recognizing pharmacists for their commitment to community and public health and was recognized as Pharmacist of the Year. He was the founding Chapter President for Illinois American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. He was also the Regional Director for the Illinois Pharmacy Association. Norman was recognized as a Friend of Labor by the Decatur Trades and Labor Council. He was awarded the Decatur Jaycee’s Good Government Award in 1968 for his community accomplishments. He and Harriet received the Do Something Great Award in 2011.

Norman enjoyed collecting and was an avid history enthusiast.  He was a life member of the Decatur Gun Club and a life member of Temple B’nai Abraham in Decatur.

The Greenberg family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to his wonderful care givers.

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Harriet; son, Aric Greenberg of Decatur; daughter, Michele Greenberg-McClung and husband Joe of San Diego, CA; granddaughter, Ariana (Robert) Geiger and great-grandson, Lincoln.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and sister, Betty Rose Leader.

Memorials in Norman’s honor may be made to the Macon County Conservation District or donor’s choice.
