Norma Jean Marlowe, formerly of Decatur Illinois, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Berryville, Arkansas on Saturday October 3, 2026, at the age of 100.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27th, 2026, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m., at Boiling Springs Cemetery, in Decatur.
Jean was born March 23, 1926, in Macon County, Illinois. The daughter of William H. Jones and Bertha L. (Parks) Jones. One of 6 children. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High and was a bank teller in her early years. She married Harold D. Marlowe on April 30, 1947, in Decatur IL, and enjoyed 76 very happy years together.
After Harold's military discharge, they moved to Santa Fe New Mexico where their two daughters, Nancy Lynn Marlowe Moore and Jerri Lea Marlowe, were born. In 1960 they moved back to Decatur IL on a small farm. Jean was the farmer and raised chickens, sheep and cows. Canning and freezing fresh food from her garden.
After the death of her daughter Nancy and the death of her husband Harold in 2023, she moved to Berryville Arkansas with her daughter Jerri. She still called Decatur her home.
Jean had always been a supporter of St Jude Children's Research Hospital,
and several other charities. Her hobby was bowling and played for a women's league for many years. She also loved to play cards. People remember her as being very sweet and kindhearted. Her favorite time was the time her and Harold spent together in Queen Valley AZ after their retirement.
Jean is survived by her daughter Jerri Lea Marlowe of Berryville, AR; 5 grandchildren Ronda Moore Aspengren (Mark)of Anchorage, AK Natalie Moore Durbin (Shawn) of Shiloh, IL; Ashley Dooty Stouten (Amos) of Eureka Springs, AR; Orin Moore (Angie) of Pocahontas, IL; and Neeley Dooty of Pontiac, MO; 10 adoring great-grandchildren: Nathan, Olin, Zella, Bella, Brodey, Nolan, Hawken, Kaylie, Bradon and Marley.
Jean's parents, Husband Harold, daughter Nancy Lynn Moore and great-granddaughter Ciera Brand-Garnett preceded her in death.
