Norma Jean Beckmeier, 82, of Decatur, IL passed away Monday, October 23, 2017 at 5:30 P.M. in her home.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., Sunday, October 29, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 N. Oakland Avenue, Decatur. Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Monday, October 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1 Bachrach Court, Decatur, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Cancer Care Specialists of Decatur Charity Fund. The family would like to encourage anyone to donate used eyeglasses to New Eyes for the Needy in care of Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes.Norma was born May 22, 1935 on a farm, Blue Mound, IL, a daughter of Moses Cecil Morgan and Helen Gould (Burns) Morgan. Norma married James Beckmeier October 2, 1954. James passed away August 24, 1983.Norma was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1954. Norma worked the last 26 years at Walmart working at both Decatur stores. She worked most recently as a fitting room associate and greeter at the Southeast Walmart. She previously worked for Illinois Power Company at the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant, and in Decatur at the call center. Other employers were Decatur Housing Authority and Macon County States Attorney Office working for Basil Greanias. Norma also served as an Election Judge.Norma attended Sycamore and Eagle Grade Schools, both one room schools in Mt. Auburn. She graduated from Blue Mound High School and took business courses at Richland Community College.Norma was a Brownie Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout/Cub Scout Den Mother. She volunteered her services at the lunch counter for the Lutheran School and helped out with her church bulletin. Norma loved her cats, Margo, Reebok and PJ and her cats when she was a child growing up on the farm.Norma is survived by her son Bill and daughter Deborah, both of Decatur and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and her brothers Paul, Marion, and Victor Lyle, and sisters Lorene, Eleanor and Gracie. "
