Mitch Mcglaughlin

August 29, 1971 — May 9, 2013

Mitch McGlaughlin passed away May 9, 2013. He did not go gently into that good night, but fought hard as if he had on his kilt and his broad sword at his side. After a long battle with cancer, he was scheduled for his final chemo therapy treatment next week, when blood clots filled his lungs and he suddenly was not with us anymore. Mitch was born August 29, 1971 in Libertyville, IL. He lived in Murphysboro and the little town of Muncie, IL. He spent most of his life in Decatur. He graduated from MacArthur High School and received his BA from Eastern Illinois University where he also was an editor of the Daily Eastern News. Mitch was an early adaptor to the world of computers, and held jobs in the IT field most of his adult life. At one time he helped maintain the largest privately owned data base in the world. Most recently, he was an employee of ICS, where the management and employees were extremely kind and understanding about the effects of the chemo treatments, even on someone as strong as Mitch. He is survived by his son, Maxwell Harrison McGlaughlin, who displays many of the same characteristics so prominent in Mitch, especially his intelligence and stubbornness. He is also survived by his wife Elissa, his parents Joe and Patricia McGlaughlin of Decatur and a multitude of friends and fellow gamers and computer experts. The family would like to thank the many friends (dear Mookie) and supporters, and especially the many members of the Medical Community for their efforts. Special thanks to Kendall Nellis, who gave much happiness and support to Mitch through her loving kindness. She is a special person. There will not be a formal visitation and public funeral at this time, but a celebration of Mitch's life will be held later. In his kilt and special "Kendall" crafted shirt and 3 official English Football Team scarves he will be cremated according to his wishes. Inurnment will be in the McGlaughlin family plot in Stearns Cemetery, Fithian, IL. Memorials for Max's education can be sent to the Max McGlaughlin Fund, PO Box 1435, Decatur, IL 62525. The family is being served by Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com. Obituary written by the family. "
