Millie Margaret Gromoll left her earthly home and family to be welcomed into her eternal heavenly home at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 05, 2008. She was at her home in Decatur at the time of her passing. She was 58 years old.Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Decatur, IL, with the Rev. Steve Hill and Dr. William Bodamer officiating. There will also be a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, at the Vandalia First Church of God, Vandalia, IL, with Pastor Tom Farris and Pastor Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Van Burensburg, IL, following the service on Saturday. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, 2827 North Oakland Ave, Decatur, and from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, at the Vandalia First Church of God, 3001 Thrill Hill, Vandalia.Mrs. Gromoll was born November 28, 1949, in Hillsboro, IL the daughter of Blanche (Everley) Greenwood and Clifford Raymond Greenwood. They preceded her in death. She married Dr. Henry Gromoll on June 8, 1972 in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1995. She attended Van Burensburg, Browning and Peak Elementery Schools, Central Jr. High and graduated from Vandalia Community High School in 1967. While in high school she was a member of Future Nurses of America, Future Homemakers of America, the Vandals Torch Bearers and Chorus. After high school graduation she attended Belleville Area College and Decatur School of Practical Nursing, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1968. Millie continued her nursing education as a graduating member of the first nursing class at Millikin University School of Nursing in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Throughout her nursing career she held various nursing positions at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, IL, Lincoln Manor South Nursing Home, Fairhaven Nursing Home and Woodland Nursing Home in the Decatur area. She also taught CNA and LPN classes at Decatur School District 61 where she also served as a school nurse. She taught continuing education classes in CPR and First Aid for the American Heart Association. Millie was on the nursing staff on the 5th floor at St. Marys Hospital in Decatur at the time of her diagnosis with terminal cancer.Millies true passion was nursing, but she loved gardening, sailing, traveling and time with her family. She was a member of the H.O.S.A. (Health Services Assoc.), Decatur Sister Cities, Millikin Dames, Commodore Decatur Yacht Club, Sisters in Sailing, Montgomery County Farm Bureau and the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her children, Cynthia (Damon) Williams, Sharon (Daniel) Milewski, James (Maricel) Gromoll, Catherine (Claude) Harvard, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister, Joyce (Donald) Peterson and several nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made to Millikin University, Millie Gromoll Nursing Fund or to the Greenhill Cemetery. Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com. "
