Michael Newland

April 1, 1946 — October 6, 2024

Michael Gary Newland passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Private family service will be held at a later date. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur, IL is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Michael’s honor may be made to Forsyth United Methodist Church.

Michael was born April 1, 1946, in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Carl and Helen (Williams) Newland. He married Kendra Otwell June 12, 1970, in Belleville, Illinois. They were happily married for 53 years.

Mike developed many interests such as playing chess and building models. He loved to draw, which led him to become an art major at Millikin University, and a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity.

Mike was employed by Caterpillar Tractor in Decatur and in Mt. Joy, Iowa for 30 years. In 1985, Mike took a sidestep in his career, and moved his family to Waterford, CT, where he worked at General Dynamics, the Electric Boat Division. However, after 5 years, he missed his family and the Midwest. In 1990, the family bought a home in Forsyth, where his wife still resides.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Kendra Newland of Forsyth. Kendra and Mike are the proud parents of Jason of St Charles, Ryan of Barrington, and David (Marilyn) of Forsyth. They have two grandchildren, Cody and Karl.

Also surviving is his brother, Brad, and sister-in-law, Janet; two nephews Eric (Jamie), Brian (Amber), great nieces Molly and Morgan, and great nephew Ethan; brother-in-law, Keith of Belleville, sister-in-law Karen Parkinson of Glen Ellyn, niece Kristin (John) of Clive, Iowa and Ericka (Mike) of Michigan City, Indiana, nephew Jerry (Kathy) of Chicago; great nieces Carly, Zoe, Sarah, Natt, Annabel, and Daisy; and great nephews Parker and Jeremiah.

Mike enjoyed going to the Y and lifting weights and flying radio control airplanes. He was a member of the Decatur Air Commanders, Masonic Lodge, and the Forsyth United Methodist Church.

Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his family, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
