Merle E. Copenbarger, 99, of Forsyth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur.
Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery, Niantic, IL. Memorials in Merle’s honor may be made to: National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Oreana Christian Church.
Merle was born July 2, 1924, in Mt. Auburn, IL, the son of Herbert and Helen Frieda (Stelzriede) Copenbarger. He married Doris Hastings on July 16,1949 in rural Harristown. She preceded him in death on November 6, 2017.
Merle farmed his entire life in the Mt. Auburn and Niantic area and was a lifetime member of the Macon Farm Bureau. He enjoyed genealogy, was a member of the Oreana Christian Church and the Kedron Masonic Lodge #340 AF & AM. Merle was also a member of the Niantic Volunteer Fire Dept.
Merle is survived by his daughters: Ann Parrish (Rick) of West Lafayette, IN, and Cheryl Logue (Dan) of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Patrick, Jonathan, Jenny, Joshua, Emy, Cassy; 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 68 years, Doris; daughter, Kathleen; grandsons: Sean and Brett; and sister, Phyllis Scott.
