Merle Harold Brown, 73, of Bethany, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024 at home peacefully.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday October 22, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery, Blue Mound. Merle was born April 1, 1951 in Decatur, IL, the son of Harold and June (Bottrell) Brown. He was the youngest of eight children and as he would say “They quit when they got it right”.
He married Joyce (Brewer-Allsop) July 3, 1998 in Bethany, IL. He retired in 2015 from the Decatur Public School District as foreman of the Transportation and Warehouse Department. He also had been employed at PPG and Caterpillar. He was a member of Bethany Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Merle loved working in the yard and on his 1968 Dodge Coronet, which he took to as many car shows as possible. His greatest passion was his family.
Merle is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joyce Brown; sons: Jason (Lauren) Brown of St. Peters, MO, Justin (Shannon) Brown of Troy, IL, Tyler Allsop of Bethany, IL, and Adam (Jessica) Allsop of Bloomington, IN; grandchildren: Jack, Ben, Willa, Jodie, Sophie, Kelsie, Haylie, Lyndsie, and Mollie Brown, and Bailey and Makenna Allsop; great-grandson, Kai Williams; brothers: Dennis (Linda) Brown of IL, Phil (Karen) Brown of IL; sisters: Judy (Arvid) Galloway of MO, Kathy (Jene) Robinson of FL, Marsha Giles of TX; sisters-in-law: Dixie Brown of IL, and Vickie Brown of TN;
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Gary and David Brown.
