Mary Ovalene Twist, 89, of Forsyth, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025.
Visitation will be 9:00 – 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary’s honor may be made to Forsyth United Methodist Church, 210 E Ruehl St, Forsyth, IL 62535.
Mary was born March 8, 1936, in DeLand, IL the daughter of Lawrence and Ethel (Fitzgerald) Floyd. She married James L. Twist on December 24, 1957, in Monticello. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2013. Mary was a devoted wife to her husband Jim of 56-years prior to his death. Mary had lived in Forsyth for 50-years and was blessed to have many wonderful friends in the community, neighborhood, and church. She was an active member in the Forsyth Methodist Church. and along with her husband was involved in many committees and groups over the years. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, never missing a birthday, holiday or special event despite the distance or location, she cherished her moments and memories with them. Mary worked as a vision and hearing specialist with Decatur Public Schools for over 20 years before her retirement and later worked for Von Maur. She was an avid Illini basketball fan and enjoyed nothing better than visiting, shopping and interactions with her friends and neighbors over the years.
The family would like to thank the staff of Christian Village for her loving care and compassion over the past years and her many close friends who’ve been her local support over all the years, especially in these last few months.
Surviving are her son, Rod Twist and wife, Cathy; grandsons: Nicholas (Meghan) Twist and Zachary Twist; and great-grandchildren: Piper and James, all of Fort Worth TX.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James L. Twist; brother, Robert Floyd; and sister, Jean Funk.
