Mary Swarms

Mary Elizabeth Swarms (Cummins) was reunited with her beloved in heaven on Monday, June 12, 2017 surrounded by family at her home in Decatur, IL. Services will be held at South Shores Christian Church in Decatur, IL on Monday June 19, 2017; visitation starting at 5pm and service to follow. An additional service will be on Saturday June 24, 2017 at Kaskaskia Church of the Brethren in Beecher City, IL; visitation starting at 2pm and service to follow. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.Mary Elizabeth was born to Orin Gussie and Mary Estella Cummins (Salmons) of Beecher City, IL on September 18, 1935. She married Troy O. Swarms, the love of her life, on September 4, 1955 and they shared 36 years of life together building their family. She worked in retail at Turn Style, Venture, and Schnucks for over 25 years.Mary Elizabeth had a smile that lit up a room and her laugh was contagious. She had a joy for life, a generous heart, and a gift to see the best in others. Her life was filled with a love for the Lord, family, reading, butterflies, country music, travel, and card playing. Her home was always open and when you came through the door you were family.She is survived by her children; Dennis of Blue Mound, IL, Mary Slaymaker and husband, Ernie of Decatur, IL, Scott and wife, Patty of Decatur, IL, Terry and wife Tonya of Beecher City, IL, Gayla of Salem, IL, and Gussie Swarms, Sr. and wife, Shayna of Decatur, IL, 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, sister in laws; Sharon Cummins of Chipley, FL, Joanie Swarms of Cambridge, MA, and Linda of Merrimac, MA, many nieces and nephews, and honorary family members.She was proceeded in death by her parents, Orin Gussie Cummins, Sr. and Mary Estella Cummins (Salmons), her husband, Troy Swarms, siblings, Robert Cummins and Orin Gussie Cummins, Jr., sister in law, Rosemary White, brother in laws, Charles Swarms and Everett Swarms.Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and Autism Awareness Fund.
