Mary “Sally” Virginia Katzenmaier, 99, of Decatur, passed away at Imboden Creek Senior Living and Rehab.
Sally was born March 14, 1927, in Decatur, the daughter of Phillip M. and Mary Jeanna (Wilkinson) Rittenhouse. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1945 and married Walter Katzenmaier on November 22, 1946, in Decatur. He preceded her in death in November 1981.
Sally retired after more than 40 years as a secretary at Staley Manufacturing Co. She belonged to Holy Family Catholic Church, Staley’s Women’s Club, Staley Retirees, and Kiwanis Club, and she volunteered with the St. Mary’s and DMH auxiliaries. She enjoyed dining out with friends, watching television, and playing cards. Most of all, she treasured time with her beloved dog and best friend, Buddy.
She is survived by two daughters, several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; daughter; two brothers; and sister.
Memorials in Sally’s name may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN; or Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur.
Private services have been held, followed by burial at Graceland Cemetery. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are assisting the family with arrangements.
