Mary Elaine Hipsher

Dec 13, 1945 — Aug 31, 2026

Decatur

Mary Elaine Hipsher born on December 13th, 1945, at the age of 80 was a devoted Christian and faithful prayer warrior. She was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Mary’s life was a beautiful testimony of love, generosity, and service. She was a devoted Christian who prayed for her family and friends and was known for her generosity and caring heart. Her faith was not simply something she believed—it was something she lived each day. She was a prayer warrior who lifted others before the Lord with steadfast love and devotion.

Mary was a longtime member of Moundford Free Methodist Church, where she served in Children’s Ministry for 45 years. One of the many ways she lovingly served and cared for her fellow church members was by keeping them connected through the prayer chain, making sure prayer requests and needs were shared compassionately.

Mary graduated from Illinois State College with honors and earned her teaching degree. She dedicated 38 years to teaching fifth and sixth grade students at Enterprise Elementary. Her influence reached far beyond the classroom. Generations of children were blessed by her patience, kindness, wisdom, and commitment to helping them learn and grow. Teaching was more than a career for Mary—it was a calling and another way she served others.

She will be remembered as a loyal Cardinal fan, a legacy she inherited from her dad, and she loyally watched and cheered for the University of Illinois basketball team. Her life was one of quiet, steadfast service, and her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Billie Hipsher, and her brother, Bob Hipsher.

She is survived by her lifelong friend and sister in Christ, Juanita Larry; her sister, Christy Adkins (Ben); nieces Megan Sisk (Josh) and Paige Wilson; her nephew, Drew Wilson (Karen); great-niece Millie Sisk, along with great-nephews Wilson Sisk, Charlie Wilson, and Kipp Wilson.

Mary gave of herself without expecting anything in return. She has now received the eternal reward for which she lived her life. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
