Mary Handley

August 16, 1930 — August 1, 2013

Mary A. Handley passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 2:58PM in Decatur Memorial Hospital, with her children and family by her side. On Aug. 16, 1930 Mary was one of nine children born to parents Walter and Doris [Jeffers] Wicker. On Thursday, August 1st she was re-united in heaven with her recently deceased husband of 43 years, Ralph Handley. Mary was a faithful member of Parkway Church of the Nazarene for nearly 60 years. Over the years she served in many positions including Church Board, Sunday School teacher, and assisting with the ministry of fellowship lunches and funeral dinners. Mary was a friend and mentor to many and she loved her church family dearly. Never afraid to face a new challenge, she opened and ran a successful children's consignment store "Little Peoples Shop," for nearly 10 years. Mary saw this as more than a business, she used it as a way to help others. Mary was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother who had a servant's heart. We are so grateful for her Godly influence and impact on the life of each and every family member. Our loss is heaven's gain and there are no words to describe how much we loved her and will miss her. Surviving children: Allan [Mary] Bullock of Warrensburg; Sherry [Timm] Oyer of Hastings, Michigan; Phillip Bullock of Decatur and Tari [Tim] Stower of Decatur. Two sisters: Virginia Sokolis of Wheeling, IL and Ilene Warfel [Dean] of Findlay, IL. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grand children and 6 great-great grandchildren; plus several nephews and nieces. Mary was preceded in death by husbands: Charles Bullock, Robert Houston, Ralph Handley, and daughter Linda Martin and three brothers and three sisters. With special thanks from the family for the excellent care provided to our precious mother by the doctors, nurses and cardio-intensive care unit at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur, IL with visitation Monday from 6-8:00PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorial donations may be made to Parkway Church of the Nazarene. "
