Mary E. Evans, 90, formerly of Decatur, IL, died at 7:10 P.M. Friday, 15 June 2012 at her daughter's home in Lufkin, TX. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, Illinois. Mary was born in Perry Township, Ohio on September 4, 1921, the daughter of Harry and Grace (McMillen) Struble. She married Dr. Edgar (Speed) Evans on March 14, 1943 in Lima, OH. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1981. Mary and her husband came to Decatur in 1945 and established a veterinarian medicine practice, initially on Wood Street and later on Pershing Road. Their home was in Southmoreland Place. Mary was a volunteer with the local American Red Cross Chapter and she later worked as an Illinois state employee for several years. She and her husband were members of Grace United Methodist Church. Shortly after Dr. Evans' death, Mary joined her daughter, Elaine and her family and has remained with them ever since. Mary enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family and her devoted dogs and cats. Surviving are her sons, Gary Evans and wife Kathy of Virginia Beach, VA; and Jack Evans and wife Mary of Columbia, MD; and her daughter, Elaine Lawrence and husband Gerald (JR) of Lufkin, TX. Surviving grandchildren include Kim Shelburne and husband Nick; Greg Evans; Jacquelyn Evans; Katy Stanfil and husband Mike; Paul Evans; Mary Beth Evans; Jenna Johnson and husband Michael; Courtney Lawrence; Eli Lawrence; Levi Lawrence; great grandchildren Kylie Evans and Liam Shelburne. Preceded in death are her parents, husband, and sisters Mabel and Lola.
